We are pleased to represent the estate of the late Marjorie (Marge) Hanna and her husband John S. (Jay) Hanna of Rockport, Maine. Jay and Marge were both an amazing, talented, and gifted couple. Jay as a designer, model maker, author, and woodcarver, and Marge with her talents as a model maker designer, weaver, potter, artist, and more! She was also one of the founders of the Maine Coast Artists, now called the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport. Together they were a team, designing the Maine Resources Aquarium in Boothbay in 1976. Jay's ship models can be found in the Smithsonian Institute, the Mariners Museum, and Maine Maritime Museum. His carvings adorn many yachts, schooners, and homes across the country. Jay also authored several books "Hulls and Half Models" with Nate Fuller, "The Shipcarver's Handbook", and the "Marine Carving Handbook" just to mention a few of their achievements. Items in this auction range from some of Jay's wood carvings, rare model of the "Anchor Hoy", two bronze eagle-head bowsprits, a collection of books about the sea and ships, also Inuit walrus ivory items, and books given to them by their good friend Captain Jack Crowell, famed arctic explorer, and captain of vessels like the Bowdoin, Gertrude Thebaud, Radio, and the Sachem. Also in this auction from Marge's side of the family are Civil War items, letters from Augustus Adams to his brother Edwin Adams during the war with details, and a rare 1855 Colt pistol (root model). We will offer furniture, glass and china, a rare signed Andrew Wyeth numbered print titled "Young Fisherman in Dory", #22 of 50 copies, furnishings and box lots from the house and workshop. Don't miss this auction. There will be something for everyone . . . from dealers, collectors, and friends of this special Rockport, Maine couple. All this and a few selected fresh additions from local estates!!! I will not disappoint you!
